Nine days of prayer, beginning after the funeral 5th January for the repose of Benedict XVI. Nine days of official mourning the loss of the late Pope Emeritus.

The word novena is derived from the Latin novem, meaning nine. A novena is a series of prayers and readings that are said for nine consecutive days – usually as a prayer of petition to obtain special graces or to implore special favours.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who died on the morning of Saturday 31st December 2022.

God, Who, in Thine ineffable providence, 
didst will that Thy servant Benedict XVI
should be numbered among the high priests, grant, we beseech Thee, that he,
who on earth held the place of Thine only-begotten Son,
may be joined forevermore to the fellowship of Thy holy pontiffs. 
Through the same Jesus Christ, your Son, 
Who lives and reigns with You  in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him. 
May he rest in peace. Amen.
