ALTAR SERVING
Altar servers play an important role in the liturgy of the Church as they assist the clergy in the celebration of the Mass and other Sacraments. Their role includes, among others, the carrying the processional cross and candles, carrying of the thurible, holding the missal for the celebrant when he is not at the altar, assisting the priest when he receives the gifts from the people, washing the priest's hands at the offertory and assisting in any other way as necessary.
To serve the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is an immense privilege and therefore it is important that servers should endeavour to perform their role with dignity, reverence and understanding. New altar servers are always welcome. They can be young and not so young and with varying degrees of experience. Don’t worry if you’ve never served before because training is available.
Our altar servers become enrolled into the Guild of St Stephen after they settle into their roles and are awarded with the Archconfraternity's medal.
