FUNERALS AT HOLY SOULS
Go forth, Christian soul, from this world
in the name of God the almighty Father,
who created you,
in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who suffered for you,
in the name of the Holy Spirit,
who was poured out upon you,
go forth, faithful Christian,
May you live in peace this day,
may your home be with God in Zion,
with Mary, the virgin Mother of God,
with Joseph, and all the angels and saints.
(Prayer of Commendation for the Dying)

FUNERAL LITURGY RESOURCES
We understand that there is so much to think about and do when we are preparing to say our final goodbye to our loved one, let alone dealing with grief. Preparing for funerals can be stressful and so we hope these resources below will help you to think about a few things, either before you meet the priest who will celebrate the funeral or if you wish to plan a funeral service for a loved one or your own funeral liturgy. The main things we talk about at a funeral planning meeting are about the deceased person, the Readings of the Mass, the Bidding Prayers and the Hymns.
Make sure that you pray and reflect on what you choose.
A good prayer for offer is to the Holy Spirit to help and lead us to a choice:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, who have taught the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

CHOOSING HYMNS
At a Funeral Mass we use the beautiful organ and choose hymns to sing (sometimes with the help of a soloist). A Funeral in Church is an act of worship and so the celebration of the funeral needs to be fitting to the environment but also the dignity of what s being celebrated. As a Church we don't provide CD's as we don't have a license to play them. Please talk to the priest who can advise you with regards hymns and music choices.
